One of the most popular social media platforms, Instagram (IG), is a great way to share photos and videos with friends and family. However, like any other application, it can accumulate cache over time which may cause it to slow down or crash. Clearing this cache regularly can help maintain the app’s performance on your Android device.
The first step in clearing your IG cache on an Android device is opening the app itself. Once you are logged into your account, navigate to your profile page by clicking on the small icon that resembles a person at the bottom right corner of your screen. From there, access settings by tapping on the three horizontal lines located at the top right corner of your profile page.
Upon clicking these lines, a sidebar menu will appear from which you need to select ‘Settings’. This option is usually found at the very bottom of this side menu. Inside ‘Settings’, look for an option labeled ‘Security’. In some versions of Instagram, this might be called ‘Privacy and Security’.
Once you’ve opened up ‘Security’, scroll down until you find an option that says ‘Clear Search History’. Although this does not directly relate to cache data, it’s always good practice to clear out search history as well since it’s another form of stored data.
Now comes clearing out actual cached data from Instagram. For this purpose, exit Instagram and go back to your main screen where all apps are displayed. Navigate towards ‘Settings’ in your phone’s main menu list – not within Instagram but rather in general phone settings.
Inside Settings locate and tap on ‘Apps’ or ‘Application Manager’, depending upon how it’s labeled in different Android versions or models. Scroll through apps until you reach ‘Instagram’. Tap on it and then tap on ‘Storage’.
Under Storage settings for Instagram app specifically now lies two options: Clear Instagram cache. Be cautious here: while tapping on Clear Cache will only remove temporary files without affecting your Instagram data, Clear Data will reset the app to its original state as if it was freshly installed. Hence, always opt for Clear Cache unless you want a complete reset.
By following these steps, you can easily clear your IG cache on an Android device. This not only improves the performance of the app but also frees up some storage space on your phone. It is advisable to perform this process periodically in order to keep your Instagram running smoothly and efficiently.
